Goin' Downtown - German-to-English patch

Goin' Downtown is another brilliant adventure game that never saw a retail release outside Germany. Even the official English version only had the text translated in English, with all the voices remaining in German.

This patch converts the German retail release of the game to the English one. Obviously all voices remain in German. Like always I bought my copy from the German Amazon online store.

To install the patch, unpack the contents of the archive and run the batch file. It will try to change a reference in your registry, so choose YES when asked to add the information to the registry.

I strongly suggest you download and apply the latest official patch that upgrades the game to version 1.1. You can also find that patch here.

You can download the conversion patch here: file1 file2

For Windows 7/8 64bit you'll also this small registry fix.

Enjoy!

A Stitch In Time - German-to-English patch

What Makes You Tick: A Stitch In Time is one of the greatest indie adventure games ever made! Unfortunately, as far as I know, there's only one retail release and that's the German one. Like always, I bought my copy from the German Amazon online store.

So, once again I made a patch that converts the German retail release to the English one. Since neither version had any speech, only the in-game text was converted. What's interesting, is that both versions contain the text for both languages.

To install the patch simply copy the files from the game CD to a directory on your hard drive, then copy the patch to the same directory, unpack the archive and overwrite the files as necessary. It's a Flash game and it doesn't even need installation.

You can download the patch here.

I also corrected some minor text issues that I happened upon in the original English version, and therefore passed in the converted version, and I made a different patch for them, in case somebody didn't want my "corrections". If you you see something like "—" instead of a dash here and there, you may want to download this fix.

Mortadelo & Filemon - The Crazy Weather Machine in English!

Mortadelo & Filemon and the Crazy-Weather Machine or Mortadelo y Filemon: La Maquina Meteoroloca, as is its Spanish name, is a rather obscure adventure game that was released in 2000 by Zeta Multimedia. It's the second of the series and the only one not developed by Alcachofa Soft. It's not a great adventure game and it's not very long either, but it's FUN! Especially if you have a soft spot for those characters and their crazy antics!

This English translation patch will convert the Spanish retail version of the game to an English one. Obviously the voices will remain in Spanish. I translated everything myself, so no machine translations here. Besides the subtitles, the main menu and interface was localized, the chapter intro animations replaced and subtitles were embedded to the various animations and cutscenes where there was no option for them.

Unfortunately the game doesn't run well (if at all) on newer machines. It can not even be installed correctly in Windows XP unless you set the compatibility mode for setup.exe to Windows 95/98. And even then, it displays various random palette transparency problems. So I would recommend using a virtual machine, like Virtual PC or Qemu, if you actually want to play it.

The other main issue with the game is its rarity. It's a pretty unknown game so it's very difficult to find it nowadays, especially outside Spain. It appears from time to time on ebay, but it needs patience and luck!

To install the patch simply unpack the archive and overwrite the files when asked.

You can download the English translation patch here.

I also wrote a walkthrough in English which you can download here.

Full Pipe - German-to-English patch

This weird Russian adventure game was first released in 2003 and like many others it never saw a proper English retail release. There was an English digital release though, but it's not available any more for reasons unknown to me! On the other hand, the German retail version is still available for purchase on the German Amazon store.

This small patch converts the German retail release of the game to the English one. Although, since the game doesn't contain a single line of dialogue only the main menu needed translation.

To install the patch simply unpack the archive and overwrite the files as necessary.

You can download the patch here.

Dead Mountaineer's Hotel - German-to-English patch

This small patch will convert the German retail release of the game [Das Geheimnis des Berghotels] to the full English version which was unfortunately only released as a digital download. Although the patch is very small in size, it will add the official English voice-over. In my opinion the English voices are bad. They could actually ruin the game for you. So I chose not to overwrite the original German voices, which are excellent, in order to give you the option to switch between them.

The game can still be found in the German Amazon on-line store.

To install the patch, just unpack the archive to the game directory, run convert.bat and select a[all] when asked to overwrite the files.

You can download the patch here.

Mozart - The Conspirators Of Prague - FULL ENGLISH !!!

The following patches convert the French and Dutch localized versions of the game to the original official, albeit unreleased, FULL ENGLISH version. That means the game now has English dialogue and English subtitles, text, menu etc. No changes or corrections were made whatsoever, although it's obvious from the many mistakes that it hasn't passed any final quality assurance tests, probably because it wasn't going to be released. So yes, the subtitles have a couple spelling and grammatical errors but they never distract or confuse. It seems that an English version of the game was actually made during the production of the game and each localized version either written over it or disabled the English text/audio.

The patches are different from each other and only work on their respective versions. I bought my Dutch version of the game [Mozart - De samenzweerders van Praag] from Mensys.nl since it was the only shop I could find that would ship to my country, accept paypal and had an English site. The French version [Mozart: Le Dernier Secret] can be found at the French Amazon store.

To install the patch for the Dutch version simply unpack the archive to the game directory and overwrite the files as necessary.

To install the patch for the French version, first unpack the archive to the game directory (overwriting the files as necessary) and then run the "mozart patch.exe". When it asks for a directory, select again the game directory. Please be patient. This procedure can take up to 10 minutes!

The new executables, in both pacthes, are also Starforce-free! Just make sure you never run the original exe and install the patch immediately after installing the game, if you want to avoid installing Starforce on your machine.

You can download the patch for the French version here

And the patch for the Dutch version here.

I also wrote an English walkthrough which you can find here.

Hollywood Monsters in English !!!

Hollywood Monsters was released by Pendulo Studios in 1997 and is one of the funniest adventures ever made. Unfortunately it was never released in English. Last year Pendulo Studios decided to release a similar adventure game called The Next Big Thing. It was supposed to be more of a reimagining of Hollywood Monsters than a sequel or a remake. They kept some themes and some puzzles but the end result was not funny enough for me. So I thought it was the perfect time to translate the original game and let the world decide for itself.

This is an unofficial translation made by fans, well... by me actually with the help of my friend A.P.SlasH. I also think I have to mention that the game is NOT machine translated.

You can download below the patch for the Spanish version released by FX Interactive. The game works perfectly in WinXP and Vista. Keep in mind that's an old game that's running in 640x480 resolution.
Download the patch here.

To install the patch, simply unpack the archive and overwrite the files in the directory which you installed the game. Keep in mind that you will need the original CD in the drive in order to play the game. Also do not overwrite our exe with the no-cd exe.

I also wrote a walkthrough in English which you can download here.

Mortadelo & Filemon - Book 5 - The Grand Soiree

I really love these comics and those characters. The thing is they were never officially translated into English and the translations in my mother language were just awful. So I decided to give it a try.

Here is an unofficial translation of Book 5. The original title is Mortadelo y Filemon - El Gran Sarao.

You can download it here.
